![]() ![]() If you want to get your gumbo on at home, here’s a tasty copycat recipe from there courtesy of Six Sister’s Stuff. Our allergy-friendly recipes may use highly refined oils, such as soybean oil, and/or ingredients that are processed in facilities. New Orleans Square is (unsurprisingly) a foodie hot spot at Disneyland, and another fan favourite is the oh so comforting gumbo, filled with juicy pieces of meat and mounds of flavour-soaked rice. While we take steps to help mitigate cross-contact, we cannot guarantee that any item is completely free of allergens. Top off with crushed ice, and garnish with a mint sprig. Guests must speak to a cast member about their allergy-friendly request. Take a spoon and swizzle ingredients together. Muddle these together until the leaves begin to break down. Club soda helps cut the sweetness of the Passion Fruit juice and simple syrup, plus adds just a hint of carbonation. Place the mint leaves in the bottom of an old-fashioned glass and top with the sugar. Add remaining ingredients and fill half way full with crushed ice. Divide 7.5 ounces of club soda between the two glasses. MINT JULEP Mint, plenty of it.5oz | 15ml simple syrup 2oz | 60ml bourbon Take a decent handful of mint, and press it against the inside of your julep tin or glass let it rest at the bottom. Fill the cup about 3/4 full with crushed ice. The cocktail made itself widely consumed at the Derby making it a tradition well before the 30’s official cocktail of the event (it’s even believed that Churchill Downs planted mint outside the clubhouse for the first Kentucky Derby’s juleps in 1875). The modern mint julep came west from Virginia where it was known as a "Virginia dram." As Virginia began to encourage the settlement of its western territory (Kentucky) in the 1770s those early Kentuckians brought two things with them - stills and horses. The mint julep became the official drink during the 1930s, when Churchill Downs started serving it in souvenir julep cups, which it ordered for the first time in 1937. In fact, our Disneyland pal Sabrina (everythingdisney.55) says that she’s heard it described as tasting like mouthwash or medicine.Even so, this classic beverage has won over many a Disneyland guest over the years, making it a beloved Disneyland staple.
